After defeating the Emerald Claw attack on their victory parade, Caleb, Ash and Spark take their captured prisoner – a necromancer from the Shrouds, an elven crime gang/death cult – to a secluded spot in the Marketplace’s steam tunnels for questioning. Named Dolzhurr the Pale, the necromancer confesses that the Shrouds were hired by the Emerald Claw to steal Alarich’s body and reanimate it in a ceremony that is due to happen tonight. He refuses to give up the location of the Shrouds’ hideout, but the heroes let him escape so that they can follow him.
Meanwhile, Kaddik and Sláine report to the Stormreach Guard about the ambush. Slaine wins the loyalty of the cynical guards by donating her entire reward of gold from the Storm Lords, and Kaddik sends workers from the House Tharashk Refinery to help with the clean-up efforts.
Meeting up, the heroes track Dolzhurr through the tunnels under Stormreach, eventually finding his body – its brain removed by an unknown creature! With the aid of the sewer map Kaddik found in the Lighthouse, they are able to delve deeper and eventually find the Shrouds’ hideout, an ancient sunken temple lit by columns of glowing crystal, where Whisper is enacting the ritual to reanimate Alarich’s corpse. The heroes battle the Shrouds and their undead minions in a desperate and bloody fight, almost falling to the murderous gang, but eventually triumphing. With the corpse of Alarich in tow, they make their way back to the surface, wondering what they must do now to further – or prevent – the Prophecy of the Impure Prince…
